Not only does the sorting make little sense (e.g. There’s a lot of categories on the main menu, sure, and the music is great, but the organization within each category is abysmal. I agree that the Switch eShop is very bad but you’re kidding yourself if you think the Wii U eShop is organized, particularly “incredibly well”. Trying to boycott the worst offenders means basically living off-grid. I don't know what we do to fix it anymore, man. Now our only equivalent tools can choose to inject things we didn't follow, hide things we did follow, and the monetization rewards the people who frequently inject garbage in between the things you want. The algorithm was simple: you followed exactly this, I will show you what you asked for. I feel like life was better when we had Google reader and you followed the RSS of sites you trust. The trouble is now there's also a network of advertising sites disguised as review sites making it hard to find the good review sites buried under all of the crap. Amazon's UI is horrible unless I know exactly what I want, and they've been at it for 30 years.Įverything relies on a network of third-party sites that get their money from people like us following their social media and hoping they show us the cool stuff buried under all the crap. I'm not going to disagree with your premise that the Nintendo implementation is especially bad, but I've also learned if I'm bored and want to find a movie to watch, it's almost impossible to get Netflix or any other streaming service to suggest something I'll actually like. (Also, having the game you're hovering over automatically cycle through screenshots is annoying when I'm trying to just read the title of the game.)ĭiscovery is a tough problem. It's ridiculous that in this day and age, we need to rely on a fan-made website like Deku Deals to do a better job than Nintendo themselves. The Switch eShop has added a few categories of organization over the years, but it's done little to actually solve the problem. It's aesthetically pleasing and fun to scroll through. The entire shop would change with the seasons as well. They have sections for franchises, characters, genres, etc. Wii U of course has the charming music, but it's also organized incredibly well. I was playing the Wii U the other day, and it's like night and day with how their eShops are presented. They've had five years to improve this shop, and they just decided not to. It's like a drop of water in an endless ocean of shovelware. There's basically no organization, so unless you released a game in the past week, it's never gonna get found. Like, it's painful to go through it, it's so slow and clunky. Six subreddits from this multireddit are randomly shuffled every hour. You can also read the rules in more depth on our wiki.
